Calcutta.
The city of joy. Of poverty and slums. The capital of the old British
Raj. The home of Mother Theresa and Rabindranath Tagore. But what doesn’t
immediately come to mind when someone says “Calcutta” is
the image of a full-figured, grey haired, bespectacled Catholic sister
in knee-length white habit, matching white sports socks and grey running
shoes, her navy blue veil flapping behind her as she zips along on her
scooter through the crowded roads of India’s cultural and artistic
metropolis. more ... India - 55 images - August 2002 |

Two
years after the sailing of a second hospital ship, Dominique Lapierre,
in the company of our photographer Jason Taylor, returned to India in
order to establish an inventory and to report on a successful action.
A project that has given a hint of hope to the people of the Sunbarbas
islands in the delta of the Ganges river. The Islands populated by some
1 million people do not even appear on a map... Today, 4 “Ships
of Hope” that Lapierre has commissioned, sail on the waters of
the Ganges. India - 60 images - June 2002 |

Chaos
reigns, while fire balls swing, painted bodies dance to a procession
of drummers, extravagant costumes dazzle the skyline and a crowd of
around 12, 000 revellers gather in Edinburgh to celebrate the two thousand
year old Celtic Festival, Beltane. Calton Hill, rising up from the centre
of Scotlands capital, is the site for this mesmerising event that occurs
every year on 30th April. The Beltane Society was founded in 1988 by
Angus Farquhar who aimed to reinvent this Pagan fertility rite in a
modern form; more ... Scotland - 24 images - July 2002 |

About
20 years ago, Master Seol Jeog-un defied the Buddhist order and created
a school that made a Korean tradition hitherto reserved for Buddhist
monks available to the public. More than a sport, the Sonmudo is a way
of living, thinking and being. A fascinating encounter with Master,
a sport, a school and it's students. South Korea - 55 images - November 2002 |

Since
Brazil was proclaimed a Republic, there hasn't been an official religion
in the country. This allowed all sorts of currents to be expressed freely.
In the country of football, culture and religion « walk hand
in hand ». The diversity of religions and the wave of immigration
has turned Brazil into a cultural melting pot. The ethnic diversity
of the country explains the passion for all that is religious
.These religions and sects, in quest of followers, find a fertile land
in the world of football; more
